HTMS Chakri Naruebet is the Royal Thai Navy's aircraft carrier, berthed at Sattahip naval base. It is the navy's largest ship and a rare thing to see at close range.
When you can visit
It is not open every day. Access depends on the ship's duties and on navy announcements — sometimes weekends, sometimes only for special occasions, and sometimes not at all because the ship is at sea.
Check with the navy before every trip. Driving out and finding it closed is a common experience.
Rules
- It sits inside a naval base: expect a checkpoint and bring ID or a passport
- Photography is restricted in places — read the signs and follow the staff
- Dress modestly, and bring a hat or umbrella: there is no shade on the flight deck
