Phra Chudathut Ratchathan was built in the reign of King Chulalongkorn and is the only Thai royal residence ever built on an island — which is why it matters as more than a photo stop.
What remains
Timber buildings and parts of the structures still stand, along with stone stairways and tree lines following the original plan, so the way the ground was used is still legible. The grounds are open to walk, with the sea in view from several points.
Today
The site is in the care of Chulalongkorn University, with historical displays and bilingual interpretation boards — enough to walk it yourself without a guide.
Worth knowing
- Free to enter; the gardens and grounds are open throughout
- The museum buildings keep their own hours — check first if you mean to go inside
- It is a historic site: dress modestly and follow the rules posted
