Khao Laem Pu Chao viewpoint stands on a hill inside the Sattahip naval base, looking out over the bay and the line of islands in a single frame. It is somewhere locals drive up for the breeze and a photograph rather than a stop on a tourist route.
When to come
Late afternoon is the popular time, when the light comes in low across the water and the heat eases. Midday is fierce, with almost no shade at the top.
The road up, and the rules
The approach is a narrow, winding climb. An ordinary car will manage it in a low gear, but take care where vehicles pass coming down. Come down before dark — there is little lighting.
- Inside a naval base: expect a checkpoint and follow the unit's rules
- It has opening hours; it is not accessible all day
- Photography is restricted in places — read the signs and respect them
- Parking at the top is limited
