Khao Kheow is a large open zoo in the Sriracha district. The principle is that animals live in wide open enclosures rather than tight cages, so visitors move through the animals' space instead of walking cage to cage.
How big
Big enough that walking all of it in one day is not realistic. There is a shuttle tram and golf carts for hire to move between zones — worth taking from the start rather than after you have worn yourself out.
The parts people come for
- The African section — giraffe, zebra and hoofstock across open ground
- A walk-in aviary where birds fly around you without wire in between
- Animal feeding sessions, run to a timetable
Planning
- Come early — the animals are more active and the heat has not built
- Buy tickets online in advance to skip the gate queue at weekends
- Wear walking shoes; bring water and a hat
- Admission, show times and feeding sessions change with the season — check before you travel
