Ko Samae San is managed by the navy under the royal plant genetics conservation project, so visits run to a set of rules and a capped headcount — which is why the island still looks the way it does.
Luk Lom beach
Luk Lom is the island's main beach: clear water and fine sand, and where most people swim and snorkel. A free shuttle runs from the island pier to the beach, so there is no walk across the island.
There is a food centre and toilets on the island; other facilities are limited.
Boats and rules
Boats leave from Samae San pier and take about 15–20 minutes. Sailings are set by the authority, and the last boat out from the mainland is around 13:00 — allow time and check ahead.
- No polystyrene or plastic bags may be brought ashore — bring reusable containers
- Visitors register on arrival as the site requires
- Carry all your rubbish back with you
- This is a day trip; there is no staying over
