Khao Sam Muk is the headland separating Bangsaen beach from the Ang Sila community — a viewpoint, the site of the Chao Mae Sam Muk shrine that local people hold in regard, and a strip of seafood restaurants and cafes clinging to the slope.
The monkeys
Khao Sam Muk is known for the macaques that live along the road and around the car park. They are used to people and will come close.
- Keep food bags, glasses and small items out of sight
- Do not feed them — it only brings them closer
- Close your windows and lock the car
The shrine
The shrine stands on the hill and carries a local legend tied to the place's name. Chonburi people stop here to make offerings, particularly at festival times. Dress modestly and keep quiet within the shrine area.
Getting up
You can drive up on the road that circles the hill, and there are steps to the summit for anyone who would rather walk. Late afternoon gives the best view and the coolest air.
